How to set an Internet2 Land Speed Record
by Anders "Ragge" Magnusson
Abstract
The Internet2 LSR is an ongoing contest aimed at improving the data transmission capabilities of both the network and the equipment used to transfer data. During 2004, Sunet (Swedish University Computer Network) together with Sprint has set the I2-LSR a number of times using NetBSD as the OS in both ends of the connection.
To be able to set a Land Speed Record there are a number of things that must be coordinated and fine-tuned. This talk will give a description of problems encountered, operative system tuning, hardware requirements, some interesting observations and other side effects of setting the I2-LSR.
